India's Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs H E Kiren Rijiju
Doha, Qatar: On behalf of Government and people of India and Prime Minister H E Narendra Modi, India's Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs H E Kiren Rijiju extended heartfelt condolences to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on July 14, 2026, on the sad demise of Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The Minister also conveyed warm personal regards of Prime Minister Modi to H H the Amir.
The Embassy of India in Qatar, in a statement issued yesterday, said that on July 12, Prime Minister of India expressed condolences on sad demise of Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
In a message of solemn tribute, Prime Minister Modi recalled Father Amir as a visionary leader who led Qatar to great heights of prosperity and modernisation. The Prime Minister also highlighted Father Amir’s pivotal role in laying strong foundations of India-Qatar strategic partnership and remembered him warmly as a true friend of India.
As a mark of deep respect for His Highness, the Government of India declared a one-day national mourning throughout India on 13 July 2026.
During this period of official mourning, national flag of India was flown at half-mast on all public and private buildings throughout country as well as across all embassies.
Indian community in Qatar has also come together to extend its deepest sympathies to the leadership and people of Qatar.
A community condolence meeting was organised yesterday by community organizations working under the aegis of the Embassy of India.
It witnessed widespread participation of community leaders, and Indian nationals who deeply mourned the passing of H H the Father Amir and remembered leadership and benevolence of the Father Amir towards the expatriate community which will be cherished forever.
