Doha: A spirited stallion running swiftly, a captivating artiste dancing gracefully, and a luminous galaxy swirling magnificently are some of the subjects of stunning art pieces on show at the “Art in Motion” exhibition currently running at Katara Art Centre.

The artworks were a product of the creativity of 16 Doha-based artists hailing from various nationalities displaying unique styles in creating their pieces using various media.

Ubiquitous in Arab culture, horses are an important part of life in the Arab world. They have been subjects of numerous literary pieces and embodied in countless works of art. The exhibition is no exception as three artists immortalize the image of horses on canvas using varying styles.

Indian artist Shihar Hamza displays abstract-realist “White Horse” in acrylic on canvas, while Qatari artist Maryam Al Mulla depicts the horse in cubist style in “The Gallop of Glory.” Well-known Qatari painter in equine art, Jameela AI Shraim, exhibits her colourful painting “Princess & Huria Al Shaqab,” which exudes dreamlike quality typical in most of her works.

Syrian artist Rafif Tormanini, Qatari artist Maria AI Bader and Indian artist Mahesh Kumar shine a different light on dance through their works “Dancing Lady,” “Harmony,” and “Indian Classical Dance,” respectively.

“Evolution,” a paper sculpture by Pakistani artist Shazia Bhanji; “Runner Ducks on the Move,” an oil-on-canvas painting by Danish artist Behnaz Larsen; “Totem,” digital photography on canvas by Mexican artist Juan Miguel Ramirez; “Hope,” an acrylic-on-canvas painting by Iraqi artist Dr. Shetha Al Numan and “Galaxy Swirl,” an acrylic and resin piece by Egyptian artist Hayam Medhat are among the variety of interesting pieces showcased at the exhibition.

Other artists taking part in the show are Russian artist Evegeniya Guncharova, Costa Rican artist Robert Garita, Syrian artist Dana Said, and Indian artists Archana Bhardwaj and Nirmala Shanmugapandian.

Curated by Qatar Art Spots for International Artists Doha, the group exhibition presented in line with the National Sport Day celebration reflects the artists’ “own interpretation of a fast-growing environment where velocity is integrated into everyday routine.”

The participating artists “were invited to capture a variety of moments, framing their point of view on mobility, speed, and motion; creating a dynamic visual dialogue between energy and static.”

The exhibition is open for public viewing following COVID-19 safety protocols until the end of this month at Katara Building 5.
