Kuala Lumpur: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister of the Federal Kingdom of Malaysia Mohammad Najib Tun Abdul Razzak yesterday attended the signing of a number of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in Kuala Lumpur.
The MoUs included cooperation in training of diplomats, cooperation in the field of higher education aiming to exchange of experts, faculty members and students of various academic programmes among institutions of higher education, as well as the exchange of educational experiences and sources of learning.
They also attended the signing of a MoU on legal cooperation activities to promote and support cooperation activities to encourage and support cooperation activities in the framework of the exchange of legislation and experiences and a MoU on judicial cooperation to promote bilateral judicial cooperation. The signing ceremony was also attended by members of the delegation accompanying the Emir and a number of Malaysian ministers.
A session of an official talks were also held yesterday between Qatar led by the Emir and Malaysia led by the Prime Minister. During the session, Emir and the Malaysian PM discussed bilateral relations and ways of supporting and developing them in various fields and a wider strategic level.
The two parties discussed and reviewed issues including economy, trade exchange, investment opportunities and human and social development, especially education, in order to serve the common interests of the two countries and for the benefit of the two brotherly peoples.
The talks also tackled a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, especially means to enhance joint cooperation in fight against terrorism. Earlier, the Emir and Malaysian Premier held a meeting during which they discussed the close ties that link the two countries and ways of developing them and exchanged views on issues on regional and international arenas.
Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was accorded an official reception at the Parliament House in the Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
H M King Sultan Muhammad V and Prime Minister Mohammad Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak led well wishers to welcome the Emir upon arrival at the headquarters of the Parliament House. The ceremony started with Qatari and Malaysian national anthems before the Emir reviewed the Guard of Honour. A 21-gunshot salute was also fired during the ceremony.
H H the Emir then went to shake hands with Malaysian officials and heads of the diplomatic missions accredited to the Federal Kingdom of Malaysia.
King of Malaysia and the Prime Minister also shook hands with Their Excellencies the Qatari delegation.
On the other hand the Malaysian media highlighted the visit of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim to Malaysia which is part of an Asian tour that will also include Singapore and Indonesia. The media stressed that the visit is of great importance to enhance bilateral relations in all fields.
The Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) covered in three languages the news of the Emir’s visit. Malaysian newspaper (Malay Mail) praised H H the Emir’s visit, pointing out that the visit will focus on exchanging views between the two countries on issues of common interest. The newspaper added that an official reception ceremony was held at the Parliament House for H H the Emir.
The Malaysian newspaper Berita Harian also wrote about the issues to be discussed during the visit, noting the reception ceremony accorded to H H the Emir upon arrival at the Parliament House. The Malaysian website (The Star) published pictures of the reception ceremony of H H the Emir at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, pointing out that this is the first visit by
H H the Emir since the visit of Father Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in May 2009.
H H the Emir attended a luncheon banquet hosted by Prime Minister of Malaysia and attended by his wife, ministers and senior officials, in honour of HH the Emir and the accompanying delegation, at the Prime Minister’s Palace Seri Perdana.
At the luncheon, a group of children from PERMATA Seni school for talented children performed folklore songs of Malaysian heritage and some Arabic songs, to welcome H H the Emir and as an expression of the deep relations between the State of Qatar and Malaysia.
