The Cultural Village Foundation Katara has announced the launch of Katara Summer Events 2020, to be presented remotely through its social media accounts in line with the State’s precautionary policy in preventing the spread of the COVID-19.
Through these events, Katara aims to motivate the various groups of society and encourage them to enhance their creative capabilities and develop them within innovative and targeted activities.
The events include a variety of competitions and virtual shows, such as heritage collections contest, Katara handicraft competition, Katara novel and fine-art competition, Meshwar and novel competition, Al-Dhad channel competition and Katara caricature contest.
In addition there will be a number of virtual exhibitions as well as Katara Theater Weekly activities and a variety of lectures, seminars and workshops in various fields of culture, literature and art. Al Thuraya Planetarium will also present online shows during the summer as well.
To encourage creativity and active public participation, Katara will offer valuable prizes to the winners of each of the competitions.
For the Heritage collections competition, the participant will shoot a video that presents a story of collections of traditional antique items. The video shouldn’t exceed three minutes and should be of high quality and in horizontal format shot using a mobile phone only. Each participant can submit three videos, and the participant should be over 18 years old and staying in Qatar. Any video containing copyrighted (music, image) or inappropriate content will be excluded. The top three winners will receive QR15,000; QR12,000 and QR10,000 respectively. Deadline for submission of videos is July 30.
The handicraft competition is being launched by Katara under the umbrella of Qatari Women’s Pen Forum. This is the first competition for women handicrafts entitled “Inspired by the women craft heritage” in an effort to highlight the role of Qatari women in craft heritage creativity and the great opportunities offered to allow them to exchange ideas and experiences, in addition to introducing Qatari women’s works and documenting the Qatari national identity.
The participants in this competition must be 18 years old or older and choose to work on women artisan heritage: Al-Marash, Sadu and mukhala and to employ it in contemporary creative works, products, handicrafts or souvenirs, which contribute to the promotion of its values.
Women wishing to participate in this competition must submit a sample of products or handicrafts or souvenirs to the Qatari Women’s Pen Forum in Building 18 (first floor), not later than August 15. The samples should be specifically created for this competition. First place winner will receive QR25,000; second place QR20,000 QR, and third place QR15,000.
For the Katara Novel and Fine Art competition, the participant will draw a painting for the cover of the Katara Prize for Arabic Novel 2020 publications, in the categories of published and unpublished novels and unpublished boys’ novels.
The winner will receive $500 and his painting and name will be on the cover of the novel. The participation is through the website of the Katara Prize for Arabic Novel www.katarnovels.com or via email [email protected]. Deadline for submission is July 10.
For the weekly Meshwar and Novel competition, each weekly winner will receive $1,000. The Al-Dhad channel competition is for the content of the (Al-Dhad-Katara Channel) on YouTube. Each weekly winner will receive $1,000.
