The Galfar Al Misnad football team emerged as victors after defeating the Shappoorji team in the finals of the Eid Trophy 2019 that was organised by the Kenyan Football Club. The two teams were drawn 1-1 at full time and had to go into penalties. The Galfar team then went on to win by scoring 5-4, and took home the trophy.
Earlier in the year, the Galfar football team did well at the QSL Workers Cup Tournament 2019 and reached the semifinals. Galfar Al Misnad is a keen supporter of football initiatives in Qatar.
The leading Qatari construction firm is also an integral partner in various nation building projects being completed for 2022, including the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor.
Galfar Al Misnad recognised early on the important role that Sports play in creating leaders, nurturing team players, and boosting company morale and unity. It was this belief that led to the creation of the Galfar Sports Club in 2003, which offers the opportunity for all employees to participate in different sporting activities throughout the year.
The Galfar Cricket Club has also made its mark on the Qatari sporting circuit with its A Division team consistently reaching the final stages of all tournaments held by the Qatar Cricket Association. In the latest QCA Twenty20 Tournament, Galfar Al Misnad took home the Runners Up trophy.
The captain of the Galfar cricket team, Mohammed Rizlan and fellow staff member Gayan Buddika, are also in Qatar’s National Cricket Team, and were selected to represent the country at the ACC Western Region Twenty20 Cricket Tournament in Oman in January 2019.
