The Qatar Stars League (QSL), in coordination with all its stakeholders, held discussions about the current football calendar and has decided not to hold the Qatar Cup for this season (2018 - 2019). The tournament will be rescheduled in the next season (2019-2020).
The decision has been taken after taking into consideration the need to give adequate rest to the players ahead of the upcoming global and continental challenges, both at the national teams and clubs levels.
Qatari footballers will play in the Copa America 2019, which will be held in Brazil from June 14 to July 7.
In the meantime, Qatar Olympic team will be in action during the Tokyo 2020 Games qualifiers.
Also, three Qatari clubs (Al Duhail, Al Sadd and Al Rayyan) are featuring in the group stage of 2019 AFC Champions League.
The participation of Qatar national team in the 2019 Asian Cup and the impact of its triumph on the players and country’s various national teams and clubs, was also discussed during the meeting.
