Doha, Qatar: Qatar participated in the 96th Executive Council meeting of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS), held virtually with the participation of undersecretaries of education ministries from GCC member states, reaffirming its commitment to advancing regional educational cooperation and shaping the future of education.
Qatar was represented at the meeting by H E Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and Maha Zayed Al Qaqqaa Al Ruwaili, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs. The session was also attended by HE Khalid Ali Salem Al Sunaidi, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic and Development Affairs at the GCC General Secretariat.
The meeting formed part of the bureau’s ongoing efforts to strengthen joint Gulf educational cooperation by enhancing coordination among member states, exchanging expertise, and addressing priority issues aimed at developing education systems and preparing them for future transformations.
At the opening of the session, the Executive Council extended its sincere condolences to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the ruling family, the Government and people of Qatar on the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, praying that Allah grant him eternal mercy and the highest place in Paradise.
Chairing the meeting, HE Eng. Mohammed Hamza Al Qasim, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Education and Chairman of the Executive Council, stressed the importance of anticipating the future of education and preparing for rapid transformations by investing in the opportunities created by technological advancements and artificial intelligence. He emphasised that such efforts would enable education systems to equip future generations with the skills needed to compete globally and contribute to national development.
HE Khalid Ali Salem Al Sunaidi highlighted the Arab Bureau’s role in promoting Gulf educational integration, noting that its 2026–2030 strategy provides an ambitious framework for anticipating the future of education, strengthening the bureau’s position as a leading regional centre of expertise through educational policy development, capacity building, and the launch of innovative initiatives.
For his part, Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al Muqbel, Director General of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States, reviewed the bureau’s achievements over more than five decades, expressing pride in the significant progress made in advancing Gulf educational cooperation through the continued support of GCC leaders and education ministers. During the meeting, Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education delivered a presentation entitled “Capabilities that Create Achievement, Potential that Shapes the Future,” showcasing the country’s comprehensive system for educating students with disabilities.
