RAF helps 78 children in Tanzania in need of heart surgeries

DOHA: Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has paid the bills for angiography and open heart surgeries of 78 children in Tanzania.
The initiative entitled ‘lhamlate Al Qulub Al Saghira’ (For the campaign of small hearth) cost QR815,000 and was funded by people of Qatar through donations.
The operations were conducted by RAF, in collaboration with partner British Islamic forum in Tanzania. A team of over 30 heart specialists from Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt, Jordon, the Philippines and Pakistan conducted the surgeries in International Hospital in capital Darussalam.
The team assessed 150 cases and selected 78 patients — 50 for angiography and 28 for open heart surgeries during a week. Since the beginning of the project in 2008 under the campaign, about 3,000 surgeries have been conducted on children. The campaign is expanding with the help of donors and there is call to conduct similar campaign in South America.The Peninsula
