Doha: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met yesterday with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic H E Luigi Di Maio, who is visiting Doha.
During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral cooperation and relations and developments in the region, especially the Libyan issue, and issues of common concern.
On the sidelines of the meeting, a memorandum of understanding on the strategic dialogue was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the strategic dialogue between the two countries aims at strengthening political and diplomatic relations and developing bilateral relations, including investment, trade, energy, agriculture, food security, tourism, cooperation in cultural affairs, education, science and technology, health, sports and youth.
He added that the dialogue also aims at coordinating the positions of the two countries on international and regional issues, defence and security issues, combating terrorism and extremism, coordinating positions in forums and mutual support for nominations in international organisations, implementing international agreements in which the State of Qatar and the Italian Republic are parties, following up the implementation of agreements and memoranda of understanding signed by the two parties, and facilitating the exchange of information, experiences, consultations, and other issues of common interest.
