Doha: Al Dayeen Municipality represented by the awareness team in coordination with Health Monitoring Department has launched an awareness programme on food safety.

Two months long programme aims at educating people and food handlers working in restaurants about key rules and regulations of health to ensure food safety, said the Ministry of Municipality and Environment in a statement.

This came following the keenness of the Municipality to create awareness among public and workers of food outlets. The programme began with food handlers of eateries offering traditional foods (locally called Al Matbakh Al Shabi).

Under the programme, the experts gave presentations on the topics of food safety, causes of food poisoning and measures to ensure safety inside the eateries.

The participants were also told how to avoid food poisoning and food born diseases. The participants were given chance to ask the questions related to maintaining health and safety in the eateries.

As per the plan, the programme will be held during February and March covering maximum number of eateries, resturants and food outlets.  The programme is a major support to create the concept of health and saftey among food handlers.
