 
The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announced yesterday the commencement of the Roads and Infrastructure Project in Al Egda Al Heedan and Al Khor (Package 1) which is located west of Al Bayt Stadium and covering Al Egda area to the west of Al Khor Road and Al Heedan area to the east. 
The project aims at developing internal streets and providing infrastructure facilities in the area including storm-water and foul sewer drainage networks to respond to residents’ needs and the urban growth.
Eng. Hamad Al Badr, Project Engineer in the Roads Projects Department at Ashghal said in a statement that the project provides services for 738 new residential plots through providing infrastructure services and enhanced local streets to provide connectivity to future public facilities in the area, such as schools, mosques, commercial complexes and youth centers.
Eng. Al Bader explained that the project includes developing a road network with a total length of 19km street lighting, road signs and road markings, as well as other road safety elements. The project also provides a 38kmpedestrian and cycle track.
Project works also include a 23.7km-long foul sewer network, 33km surface and groundwater drainage network, and 6.7km Treated Sewerage Effluent (TSE) network along with a 20.4km potable water network.
In addition, new sewage pipelines along with a new system to ensure the flow distribution will be provided and connected with Qatar’s main sewage network. 
Construction works will also include an emergency flood area with a total capacity of 44,000 m3 to provide proper protection for the entire area against flooding and excess rainfall.
Eng. Al Bader also pointed out that in line with Ashghal’s support to local manufacturers and in line with Ta’heel initiative which was launched by the authority in 2017, local materials and manufacturers will be relied on for most of the project’s work. 
Materials and elements that will be supplied from local manufacturers include gabbro, lighting poles and luminaires, directional signs in addition to sewage, surface water and rain water drainage pipes, asphalt, concrete, rebar and prefabricated manholes. The local Qatari component that will be used on the project is planned to reach 85 percent.
The Roads and Infrastructure in Al Egda Al Heedan and Al Khor (Package 1) Project is being implemented by Al Darwich Engineering, at a cost of approximately QR303m. 
It is divided into three geographical zones which will be carried out successively. The duration of each phase will be one year while the full completion of the project is scheduled for second quarter of 2023.
