Doha: The 7th Annual Labour and Workers Conference will be held virtually today under a theme ‘Caring workers is a moral duty and a legal obligation’.

The event will be organised by Dar Al Sharq under the aegis of the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA).

The most prominent practices to promote workers’ rights, experiences of agencies and companies, and State’s efforts to care expatriate workers will be discussed in the conference.

Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs at Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs MADLSA, Mohammed Hassan Al Obaidli, will address the opening session of the conference.

This came in a press conference held yesterday in Dar Al Sharq. During the press conference, the sponsors of the conference were also honoured.

Speaking at the press conference, Deputy CEO of Dar Al Sharq, Jaber Salem Al Harami, welcomed all the sponsors of the 7th Annual Labour and Workers Conference, appreciating the participation of many state agencies representing the public and private sectors.

He said that Qatar, several years ago, began to introduce major reforms in the labour market and is still continuing to do so, noting that the State with all its sectors is supporting the workers’ sector.

“Dar Al Shar succeeded in creating an annual platform for exchanging opinions and experiences between government and private agencies with international organisations to discuss labour issues with transparency,” said Al Harami.

He praised the great efforts made by the various ministries and institutions of Qatar, especially the MADLSA, which is providing all support and care to workers and labour sector in the country.

Director of Labor Inspection Department at MADLSA, Fahad Zafer Al Dosari, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to Dar Al Sharq for organising this event, which aims to support and care for the rights of expatriate workers.

He congratulated the companies that received these awards for their outstanding efforts in the field of worker welfare and their adherence to occupational safety and health procedures at work sites and workers’ accommodation.

Chairman of the Workers’ Welfare Awards Committee, Mohamed bin Towar Al Kuwari, said that the conference is one of the most important events organised in Qatar on caring workers.

He said that the conference is an opportunity to highlight the true face and to cooperate with various parties in order to enhance the welfare of workers.

Communications and Public Relations Manager at Barwa Real Estate, Ali Al Kuwari, said that the company is participating in the conference taking its responsibility to protect the workers. He said that Barwa pays great attention to workers by providing housing and recreational areas for them.

He said that 90 percent drivers of the company have been vaccinated which reflects the keenness of the company to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
