Doha, Qatar: Qatar is strengthening its efforts to develop a highly skilled national workforce through its Government Domestic Scholarship Programme, which offers fully funded study opportunities and monthly stipends of up to QR10,000 for students pursuing priority academic disciplines aligned with the country’s development needs.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education said the programme is designed to support Qatari students in obtaining qualifications in fields that are critical to the labour market, including medicine, engineering, computer science, health sciences, education and emergency medical services.
Sharing the details of the programme on the X, the Ministry said that the initiative forms part of broader national efforts to advance human capital development and achieve the employment objectives outlined in Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy. By directing scholarship opportunities toward high-demand sectors, the programme seeks to ensure a steady pipeline of qualified national talent capable of supporting economic diversification and sustainable growth.
Under the programme, students pursuing medicine, education and paramedic studies are eligible for monthly stipends of QR10,000, while those enrolled in engineering, computer science and health sciences programmes receive QR8,000 per month. Students studying applied sciences and arts are entitled to QR6,000 monthly, while professional diploma students receive QR4,000.
The Ministry noted that applications for the 2026-2027 scholarship cycle will be accepted between November 15 and December 30, 2026.
The scholarship programme enables students to pursue higher education at approved national and private universities within Qatar. Scholarship places are allocated competitively, with preference given to students achieving the highest secondary school results and enrolling in disciplines identified as national priorities.
Eligible students include those ranked among the top ten graduates in the general education tracks—Scientific, Technological, and Arts and Humanities—as well as the highest-performing student in each specialised track, including Technical and Banking studies. Candidates must achieve a minimum score of 95 percent and obtain unconditional admission to an approved university. For bachelor’s degree applicants, minimum secondary school requirements vary according to the field of study. Students seeking admission to medicine, engineering and computer science programmes must achieve at least 80 percent in secondary school, while applicants to science and allied health disciplines must attain a minimum score of 75 percent.
Master’s and executive master’s applicants are required to hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0, while doctoral candidates must have achieved at least a “Very Good” classification in their previous qualification. In addition, postgraduate applicants who are employed must obtain approval from their employer and the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau.
Doctoral scholarships are reserved for national professionals affiliated with academic institutions or research centres.
