QU research series discusses distance education experiences

Doha: As part of the Research Wednesday series of podcasts organized by the Research and Graduate Studies Department of Qatar University (QU), experts and specialists shed light on distance education experience and its future.

The third episode of second season of the Research Wednesday had Dr Ahmed Al Oun, Dean of Graduate Studies, Qatar University, Dr Asmaa Al-Attiyah, Head of the Department of Psychological Sciences, College of Education and Dr. Mahjoub Zweiri, Director of the Center for Gulf Studies, Qatar University as speakers.

The podcast titled ‘A year in distance education: what next?’ was moderated by Shaker Iyadi, Lecturer of Mass Communication, College of Arts and Sciences.

The podcast discussed in detail about the various aspects of distance education and how it will evolve as we move forward.

The speakers at the seminar emphasized the factors that helped Qatar University in the transition to distance education, which are technological factors and strategic goals planned by Qatar University that enabled it to succeed quickly, as within one week it succeeded in providing remote lectures during the coronavirus pandemic.

Qatar University has provided many workshops for professors and students. It also has fast internet and therefore easy access for students, and it has a high technological infrastructure and technological courses, all of these factors enabled the success and transformation to distance education successfully, they said.

The speakers also emphasized that Qatar University builds its plans on sustainable development goals and has all the capabilities that enable it to provide quality education.

Thus, it can be said that the university prepared for such circumstances and that it was ready for distance education, and this proves the success of the institution to deal with any emergency circumstances.
