Doha, Qatar: Katara Cultural Village, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Qatar, screened the documentary “Ho Chi Minh’s Diplomacy” at its Drama Theatre yesterday, offering audiences insights into Vietnam’s diplomatic history and the principles that continue to shape its international relations.

The screening was attended by officials, ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions, members of the Vietnamese community in Qatar, media representatives and cultural and cinema enthusiasts. The event highlighted the role of cultural initiatives in promoting mutual understanding, dialogue and exchanges between nations.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador of Vietnam to Qatar H E Nguyen Huy Hiep said the screening provided an opportunity to share a part of Vietnam’s history and the diplomatic values the country continues to cherish with international friends in Qatar.

He expressed appreciation to Katara Cultural Village for its cooperation and support in organising the event, describing the documentary as a means of introducing audiences to the life and diplomatic legacy of Ho Chi Minh, a central figure in Vietnam’s struggle for independence, freedom and national reunification.

The ambassador said Ho Chi Minh had also laid important foundations for Vietnam’s foreign policy from the establishment of the modern Vietnamese state, with his diplomatic thought distinguished by a combination of principle and humanity.

He noted that Ho Chi Minh attached great importance to peace, independence, respect for sovereignty, equality and mutual benefit, while advocating friendly relations with all countries and seeking to avoid hostility.

“Ho Chi Minh’s diplomacy was also reflected in the way he interacted with people: sincere, simple, open, thoughtful and respectful,” the ambassador said, highlighting his emphasis on friendship among nations, understanding and mutual respect, including with peoples whose countries had once been on opposing sides of the conflict with Vietnam.

Even during the years of war, Ho Chi Minh consistently emphasised that the Vietnamese people were peace-loving and that their struggle for independence and reunification was connected to broader aspirations for peace and the progressive values of humanity, H E Nguyen Huy Hiep said.

He added that the values reflected in Ho Chi Minh’s diplomatic legacy remain relevant in the contemporary international landscape, particularly the importance of peace, national independence, friendship among nations and dialogue.

The ambassador said the story of Ho Chi Minh extended beyond Vietnam’s national history, offering lessons on the role of diplomacy in building understanding and fostering constructive relations between countries.

Building on this vision of openness in international relations, Vietnam continues to pursue greater international integration, expand ties with countries around the world and contribute actively and responsibly to multilateral cooperation, he said.

The screening formed part of efforts to strengthen cultural understanding and bring the histories and experiences of different nations closer to audiences in Qatar.

Concluding his remarks, H E Nguyen Huy Hiep thanked Katara Cultural Village for its support and expressed appreciation to the diplomatic corps, distinguished guests, members of the media and the Vietnamese community in Qatar for attending the event.

He expressed hope that the documentary would provide viewers with a deeper understanding of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam and the values underpinning the country’s relations with its international partners.
