Kyiv: An updated joint Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment (RDNA5) released Monday by Kyiv, the World Bank Group, the European Commission, and the United Nations currently estimates that the total cost of reconstruction in Ukraine is almost USD 588 billion (over 500 billion Euros) over the next decade.
The report said that the cost of reconstruction continues to rise and is now estimated at USD 587.7 billion over ten years, which is three times the estimated nominal GDP of Ukraine for 2025.
This annual report details the extent of the damage inflicted on Ukraine since the start of the Russian military operation in 2022, and is prepared in cooperation with the World Bank Group, the Government of Ukraine, the European Commission, and the United Nations.
The report, which covers the 46-month period between the start of the Russian operation in February 2022 and December 2025, said that the sectors most affected in Ukraine were housing, transport, and energy.
The report indicated that the damage and needs are concentrated in areas close to the front line and in major Ukrainian cities.
The greatest long-term needs will be concentrated in the transport sector (USD 96 billion, or 82 billion Euros), the energy sector (77 billion Euros), housing (77 billion Euros), trade and industry (54 billion Euros), and agriculture (47 billion Euros).
The Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine and Kharkiv in the northeast, where the fighting is concentrated, will require significant reconstruction efforts.
In the capital, Kyiv, with a population of three million, reconstruction costs are estimated at more than USD 15 billion, due to the city being repeatedly targeted by Russian drones and missiles.
The report affirms that the humanitarian, social, economic, and environmental repercussions will continue for generations.
