Doha: Qatari Forum for Authors discussed, within the “Mind Dialogue.. Youth Debates” initiative, which is part of the activities of “Doha, the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021”, the topic of Qatari publishing houses between making profit and contributing to the promotion of culture and the enrichment of knowledge.

The initiative, which is broadcast on YouTube, aims at enhancing the role of young authors and encouraging freedom of opinion, criticism and respect for other opinion, through competitive seminars that discuss a range of intellectual and cultural issues, in the form of debate. The first team was led by writer Issa Abdullah, along with writers Omar Al Meer and Mohammed Al Marri.

The team was of the view that places the goal of quality and support the cultural movement over any other goals, explaining that they prefer the idea of the Qatari publishing houses’ keenness to enrich the cultural arena away from making material gains.

A different view was expressed by the team of the writer Lina Al Aali, along with writers Nasir Shukri and Safaa Abdel Salam, who said that financial profit was a priority.
