One of the paintings by Kuwaiti artist May Al Saad on show at the just-launched virtual exhibition “Voice of Colour” which can be viewed on Katara website.
The rhythm, music and movement of traditional Gulf dances have been vividly captured in colour by Kuwaiti artist May Al Saad in her solo exhibition aptly titled “Voice of Colour” launched virtually by the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara).
Around 30 paintings by Al Saad can be viewed online through Katara’s official website and social media accounts. They all bear exceptional aesthetic details highlighted through the artist’s use of vibrant colours layered in such a way that the images convey the subjects’ feelings and the beauty of the dances.
The paintings offers a glimpse into the peculiarity of life of Gulf societies, embody the nobility of traditional Gulf folklore, and reflect the rich heritage the region offers to the world. Exuding Al Saad’s unique style and distinct technique, the works on display expresses Al Saad’s love for her culture and traditions evident since she embarked in her artistic journey.
Holding a BA in Business Administration, Al Saad is a self-taught artist that has left a mark on the map of Arab art map. Since 1993, she has featuered in several solo and group exhibitions in different countries.
She is known breathing life into aspects of Arabian culture, capturing its beat and movement through colour on canvas. Her extraordinary career as a prolific artist has been recognized with a number of accolades in Kuwait and in other parts of the world, winning her various awards in festivals in different countries. A number of her works now belong to collections of some prominent private collectors and cultural institutions.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, Katara has engaged the public with many online activities which promote health and safety amid the pandemic including virtual exhibitions.
To date, Katara has launched around a dozen virtual art exhibitions including “Prism” by Iraqi artist Falah Al Saeedi, “Fine Arabic Calligraphy” by six Turkish artists, “Portraits” by seasoned Qatari portrait artist Eman Al Sulaiti, “Femmes à la mode” by Indian artist Surabhi, “Trace” by Qatari artist Jawaher Al Mannai, “The Unreachable Mirage” by Qatari artist Masoud Al Bulushi, “Heritage” by Hassan Bu Jassoum, “Patches” by Syrian contemporary artist Hadi Qasous, “Culture Collision” by Hassan Taleb Alsalat, “The Result” by Fatima Al Nuaimi, and “Al Taybeen” by Ali Dasmal Al Kuwari.
