Doha: Qatar University’s Press marked World Book and Copyright Day to pay tribute to books and authors and encourage people to discover the pleasure of reading. The Vision of QU Press is to be recognized as a quality scholarly publisher in the region and the world through a commitment to the highest standards of scholarship, effective dissemination of knowledge, and global impact.
On this occasion, several prominent writers at QU Press shared their sentiments on this day.
Kholeh Mortazawi, Academic Researcher and Head of Section of Media & Publications, commented, “Printing and publishing are among the developing sectors in the country that need serious support. The government should contribute to establishing more local publishing and printing houses.
“Enacted laws and updated intellectual property laws will help to achieve the vision of sustainable development. The publishing and printing sector is a civilizational project that produces cultural industries.”
Kummam Al Maadeed, Director of Communications and Public Relations, said, "In the past few years, we have witnessed a growth in the book publishing industry in Doha, and that brought with it a whole new generation of writers in the country."
Ameera Al Hebabi, Section Head of Marketing and Sales, QU Press Department, said QU Press is working to meet readers’ interests through publishing scientific books.
Sabine Saad, Senior Acquisitions Editor-Social Sciences, said the recent radical change in producing academic books, due to pandemic, affected publishing houses, readers and authors. Hardcover books decreased, and the focus became on digital publishing.
