Coach Xavi Hernandez expressed his delight after Al Sadd claimed valuable points against Al Rayyan with a 4-2 Qatar Clasico win at the Khalifa International Stadium on Wednesday.

With third victory on the trot, defending champions Al Sadd joined Al Duhail on top of the QNB Stars League (QSL) standings.

Speaking to the club website after the game, Xavi said: “I am happy with the win. We got three important points for our campaign to defend the league title. The win came over a strong opponent like Al Rayyan.”

After taking a 3-0 lead, Al Sadd conceded two goals to allow Al Rayyan a comeback into the match before sealing the victory.

“We suffered a lot after we scored the third goal. We allowed Al Rayyan to come back and score two goals. But we had a strong reaction after Al Rayyan’s second goal, and we managed to score our fourth goal and clinch the game. We could have scored more,” said Xavi.

Al Sadd coach also hailed fans for their support in the big game against Al Rayyan..

“Al Sadd fans are always there to support us and they had a great role to play in the today’s victory. I am happy with the fans and happy to get 9 points from three successive wins,” said Xavi.

Asked about the upcoming Amir Cup clash against Al Rayyan on October 22, Xavi indicated that the circumstances would be different in that game.

“The Amir Cup final will be completely different from today’s match. Al Rayyan have also signed new foreign players and so the situation will be different,” the Barcelona legend said.
