QNL President, Turkish Culture Minister discuss cooperation in field of libraries

Doha - Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library (QNL) HE Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari met Sunday with Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey HE Mehmet Nuri Ersoy and the accompanying delegation, who is visiting the country.

During the meeting, they reviewed ways to enhance cooperation between Qatar National Library (QNL) and libraries in Turkey. On this occasion, HE the Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism gifted a collection of Turkish literature, whether written in Turkish or translated from it, to QNL.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sideline of the meeting, Minister of State and President of QNL HE Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari said that QNL, despite its recent establishment, has become known globally for its culturally distinguished role, praising the keenness of the Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism to enhance the cultural aspects between the two countries, especially in the field of libraries. He pointed to the distinction of Qatari-Turkish relations in the fields of politics and economy, in addition to culture that goes in parallel line with politics and economics.

HE added that Turkey is one of the countries with ancient cultures, and has strong ties with Qatar that are rooted in history, which is reflected in the cultural relations between the two countries, noting that the meeting reviewed many ideas that strengthen relations between QNL and libraries in Turkey. He added that an agreement will be signed on Wednesday between QNL and the Ummah Library in Ankara, to take executive steps and organize several events to revitalize relations and cooperation in the field of libraries between the two countries.

On the cooperation between Qatar Library and the Ottoman Archive, HE the President of QNL said that the Ottoman Archive is very important to us, because we belong to one nation.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey HE Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stressed in a similar statement the depth of the historical relations between the two countries in various fields, saying, through this cultural cooperation, we want to give additional value to these distinguished relations through culture and heritage, noting that the donated books were chosen so that readers in Qatar could get acquainted with aspects of Turkey's history. He expressed keenness to strengthen and develop cultural relations with Qatar, especially in the field of libraries.
