Islamabad: Three new dengue fever cases were confirmed in Pakistan's eastern Rawalpindi district, bringing the total number of cases reported over the past two months to 70, local health authorities said Saturday.

District Health Officer Preventive Jawad Zahid said that dengue infection was confirmed in three patients whose serology reports were positive. Nine dengue patients are currently being treated in hospitals in the district, he added.

Following the detection of the cases, authorities have stepped up anti-dengue activities and field surveillance in the affected areas, including efforts to identify mosquito breeding sites, said Zahid.

Meanwhile, the district emergency and response committee for dengue control directed relevant departments to further strengthen field surveillance and preventive measures across the district.
