DOHA: The Qatar Finance and Business Academy (QFBA) recently concluded a partnership with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), which saw MUFG host three Kawader interns at their Asian offices in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

The collaboration between QFBA and MUFG follows on from MUFG hosting Kawader interns at their London offices in 2015. MUFG was the first organization to open the international platform for the Kawader programme, and this year offered placements in their Asian offices. MUFG wanted to use the opportunity to enhance knowledge and further strengthen the relationship between MUFG and Qatar.

Commenting on the partnership, Dr Mohammed Abdullah Al Emadi, Acting CEO of QFBA, said: “QFBA’s partnership with MUFG’s is in line with the Academy’s mandate of building a well-qualified human capital base that supports the financial sector in the country and the region, while bolstering its effective contribution to the realization of a knowledge-based economy under the umbrella of the Qatar National Vision 2030.”

He added, “On the industry level, this will raise the skills and knowledge of the human capital in the banking industry, and will match the sector’s training qualifications with the evolving job market needs. The individuals and organizations in Qatar will get to benefit from a higher standard of skill development that better caters to their professional development needs. This initiative creates a win-win situation for all parties involved and opens up a whole world of opportunities in the industry. MUFG has proven to be a great partner adding substantial value to the Kawader program with its well-structured and thought out internship experience for the Kawader interns.”

The program has continuously assured a strong alliance between QFBA and MUFG in recognizing MUFG and its assistance in shaping the bright minds of the future by giving them an opportunity to uniquely learn skills on an international platform.

Katanori Otsuji, Head of MUFG’s Doha office, commented: “We at MUFG are honoured to have supported the Kawader programme since its very beginning, by hosting Qatari students in our global offices for internships, including London and various countries across Asia.”

“We are always impressed by the enthusiasm and competence of the students who join our teams and they manage to make a lasting impression within a short space of time. We wish to congratulate the QFBA on the excellent work they are doing to develop Qatari talent through this outstanding training program and we are committed to maintaining our partnership with Kawader for years to come,” he added.

The Kawader programme is a unique initiative which aims to provide state of the art professional skill development leveraging the collaboration between the financial and academic sectors. The internship period lasts for at least four weeks with hands-on training provided to the interns. To date, MUFG has hosted four Kawader cohorts and is keen on continuing the successful partnership.

The recent MUFG Asia coverage offered in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong was for Project Finance, Islamic Finance and Treasury Markets. These offices in Asia worked in full cooperation to support the expansion of the project with the target to enhance local business networks into Asia through MUFG.
