Doha: Qatar University's College of Pharmacy (QU-CPH) announced the official opening of admission for male students to its current BSc pharmacy programme from next fall 2020. The online application process is now open and the college is ready to receive 15 male students alongside the usual number of female students.
This major milestone in college history is in line with the increasing demand for recruiting male pharmacists in the country especially with the expansion of projects in health sector in the country.
Commenting on this important milestone, Vice President for Medical, Health Sciences, and Dean of the College of Medicine at Qatar University Dr. Egon Toft said: "Introducing male admission in the only national College of Pharmacy in the country is definitely a vantage point we have been aiming for. This has been done in alignment to the QU-health strategy to be recognized regionally for excellence in inter-professional health education and interdisciplinary health research. This initiative will take the future of healthcare to another level and create equal opportunities for learning between all."
The College of Pharmacy is the first and only pharmacy degree program in Qatar. The College offers a 5-year BSc (Pharmacy), Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), MSc (Pharm) degree program, and Doctorate in Pharmaceutical Sciences (PhD).
The college mission is to prepare pharmacy students to provide optimal pharmaceutical care and advance health care outcomes, to promote research and scholarly activity, and to serve as a pharmacy resource for Qatar, the Middle East, and the world.
