Doha, Qatar: In a powerful gesture of inclusion and creativity, the Qatar Foundation for Social Work recently presented a vibrant painting titled “My Family”  to the United Nations House in Doha.

The event was attended by CEO of Qatar Foundation for Social Work, Rashid Mohammed Al Hamda Al Nuaimi; UNESCO Regional Director for GCC and Yemen, Salah Khaled; and other officials.

Created by talented affiliates of the Shafallah Centre for Persons with Disabilities, the artwork celebrates the family as the foundation of belonging, unity and societal strength.

The donation underscores the Foundation’s commitment to spotlighting the creative abilities of persons with disabilities and showcasing their active role in Qatari society. According to the Foundation, the piece serves as an inspiring model of social impact, enhancing Qatar’s presence in international forums through art that carries a deeply human message.

The painting depicts a Qatari family,  a father in traditional attire, a mother in abaya, and a young child,  nestled within the branches of a flourishing tree. Its roots spread wide and strong against a vivid backdrop of red, blue and yellow, symbolising the family as the root of belonging and inclusion. With an artistic vision that blends cultural heritage and universal values, the work reflects the profound bonds of kinship and the importance of family in building a cohesive, supportive community.

The Shafallah Centre, a flagship institution under Qatar Foundation for Social Work, provides specialised support, education and rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities. Through programmes that nurture artistic expression, it empowers individuals to transform personal talents into meaningful contributions that challenge perceptions and promote social integration.

This latest initiative aligns with the Foundation’s broader mission to drive human and social development in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. By facilitating platforms for persons with disabilities to engage on the global stage, Qatar Social Work continues to build bridges between local talent and international audiences, fostering greater awareness of inclusion and the transformative power of social work.

The gift to the United Nations House not only highlights the creative energies within Qatar’s disability community but also reinforces the country’s leadership in promoting human rights, cultural diplomacy and sustainable social development. As the artwork takes its place at a key international institution, it stands as a testament to the belief that every individual possesses unique abilities that enrich society when given the opportunity to shine.

Qatar Social Work, which operates multiple specialised centres across the country, has long championed such initiatives to amplify voices that might otherwise go unheard. “My Family” joins a growing portfolio of projects that demonstrate how art can transcend barriers, celebrate diversity and contribute to a more inclusive world.

The donation marks another milestone in Qatar’s ongoing efforts to position culture and creativity as drivers of national and global dialogue.
