Doha: The Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA) concluded the conference on “Relationship Between Scientific Research and the Qatari Humanitarian Sector”.
The panelists stressed on the need for a research agenda for humanitarian and charitable work during the conference which was organised in cooperation with the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies.
The event aimed at exchanging expertise and experiences on ways to optimise the use of scientific research in order to develop the efforts of humanitarian organisations.
A number of prominent experts and specialists in the humanitarian sector as well as executive heads and directors of departments of Qatari charities, foundations and organisations in the State of Qatar participated in the conference.
Ibrahim Al Dehaimi, General Manager of Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities, said that the Authority is keen to make full use of the potential of research centers by taking stock of research and studies that have dealt with humanitarian and charitable work and identifying aspects of their use.
Dr. Arne Strand, Director of the U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Centre at Christensen Michelsen Institute (CMI), Norway, and Dr. Antonio de Laurie, Director of the Norwegian Center for Humanitarian Studies, gave a presentation on cooperation between the Norwegian humanitarian research centers and how to establish a single coherent network to ensure the success of the work.
Prof. Sultan Barakat, Director of CHS stressed that the convening of this conference is of great importance for humanitarian work, stressing that the Qatari charitable sector has a distinct international presence that enhances opportunities for regional and global research partnerships.
Dr. Hatem M’henni, Senior Program Manager of the QNRF, pointed out that there are great opportunities to activate the role of scientific research in the humanitarian and charitable field. He pointed out the possibility for humanitarian and charitable institutions to establish a scientific research office within them or to cooperate with entities that have a scientific research office such as Qatar University or Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.
