Doha, Qatar: The final round of Group G fixtures sees Iran face Egypt in a match with major implications for qualification to the Round of 32.

With Egypt already through, attention turns to whether Iran can secure a place in the knockout stage.

The crucial match will be played on Saturday (6am, Qatar time) in Seattle.

Iran enter the fixture unbeaten after disciplined performances throughout the tournament. Team Melli drew with New Zealand before earning another point against Belgium, keeping them firmly in the qualification race.

A defining feature of Iran’s campaign has been their defensive organisation. Head coach Amir Ghalenoei has built a compact side capable of transitioning quickly into attack.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Ghalenoei emphasised the importance of concentration and discipline, stating, “Every detail can make the difference in a match like this. We must remain focused and disciplined for the full 90 minutes. He also added that “We have faced challenges throughout this tournament, but our focus remains on the football and on achieving our objective.”

Iran’s hopes rest on several key figures. Goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand has been a key performer, producing important saves and providing stability at the back.

Mehdi Taremi remains Iran’s main attacking threat, offering movement and finishing quality in the final third. Alireza Jahanbakhsh provides width and creativity from advanced areas.

The midfield battle is expected to be crucial, with Saeid Ezatolahi providing physical presence and defensive stability for Iran.

Egypt have already secured qualification to the Round of 32 after a strong group-stage campaign and will now look to maintain momentum and finish the group strongly.

Head coach Hossam Hassan has overseen a disciplined and organized team capable of combining defensive stability with attacking efficiency. He stressed tactical discipline ahead of the match, stating: “Iran is a very organized team. We must be disciplined, patient, and efficient when our opportunities come.”

Egypt’s attacking threat is led by captain Mohamed Salah, who remains the focal point of their forward play with his pace, movement, and finishing ability.

Alongside him, Omar Marmoush adds another layer of attacking danger, offering direct running, creativity in transition, and the ability to break defensive lines from wide or central positions.

Speaking ahead of the match, Salah said, “We still want to finish the group strongly. Every match at this level demands full concentration.”

Tactically, the match pits a team fighting for qualification against a side already through. Iran will focus on defensive discipline, while Egypt aim to control possession and maintain rhythm.

The midfield battle could prove decisive, with control likely to determine territorial advantage and Set pieces could also prove important, with both sides strong defensively.

Beyond tactics, the significance of the fixture is clear. Iran’s qualification hopes depend on the result, while Egypt aim to finish the group strongly and carry momentum into the knockout rounds.

As the group stage concludes, Iran face a defining test against a qualified but competitive Egypt side. With qualification still on the line, the match could shape the final Group G standings.
