Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is offering free Arabic-language learning through its online platforms (website and mobile app), providing structured courses for learners in Qatar and abroad.

Designed for beginners through intermediate learners, the programme enables students to build practical skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking Arabic.

It targets non-Arabic speakers seeking everyday communication, cultural literacy, or a foundation for Islamic studies, as well as visitors and professionals seeking functional Arabic for travel, business, or media work.

Arabic is the official language of more than 20 countries and one of the most widely spoken native languages globally.

Yet many learners told The Peninsula that time constraints, high course fees, or the inability to attend in-person classes often prevent sustained study.

The ‘Takalam’ platform addresses these barriers by providing flexible, self-paced learning at no cost.

Available via the ministry’s website and as a mobile application, Takalam provides a comprehensive curriculum structured across seven levels.

Each level contains 20 lessons combining tutoring videos with interactive exercises that reinforce vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and writing.

Lessons can be streamed online or downloaded for offline study, allowing learners to progress at their own pace.

How to register

1.    Create a free account on the ministry’s website or through the Takalam application.

2.    Navigate to the education section and select the Takalam option.

3.    Activate your account using the link sent to your registered email or by entering the activation code provided.

4.    Choose your starting level based on your current Arabic proficiency.

5.    Begin learning by accessing lessons online or downloading them to your device.

In addition to the digital platform, the ministry also organises free, in-person Arabic courses for non-speakers.

These include regular and intensive options, with schedules announced through the ministry’s official website and social media channels.

The initiative forms part of Qatar’s broader efforts to promote Arabic language learning and cultural understanding, reflecting the country’s diverse population and its commitment to accessible education for all nationalities.
