Doha: A total of 935 children are taking part in Katara’s “Juz’u Amma” competition for children organised this Ramadan, the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) announced yesterday.
The annual Holy Quran memorisation and recitation competition for children, open for those aged six to 13, comes within the activities of Katara during the holy month, registration of which was done electronically from the first to the 10th of Ramadan.
Participants are to be contacted by phone and Zoom for evaluation, said Katara.
Big cash prizes are in store for the top three winners including QR10,000, QR 8,000, and QR5,000 respectively, added Katara.
The competition came within the series of competitions and various activities presented remotely by Katara within its social media platforms.
This is in line with the country’s precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Last year, the competition witnessed the participation of 1,681 children, 765 of whom qualified.
Katara has launched a set of competitions dedicated to children within the framework of its continuous endeavour to pay attention to this important segment of the society by setting up educational and recreational programmes, in addition to its keenness in spreading culture, heritage, and Arab and Islamic values.
In observance of the holy month, Katara had announced a variety of virtual activities and events such as online competitions and virtual exhibitions in accordance with COVID-19 precautionary measures being implemented by the state.
These activities include a number of daily and weekly competitions in which valuable prizes can be won such as daily Q&A contests, short story competition, the Katara Prize for Arabic Poetry (Mothers of the Believers), and the “Juz’u Amma” among others.
Katara is also broadcasting new episodes of the popular cartoon series it has produced called “Tamour and Tamoura.” A number of virtual art exhibitions which Katara had launched earlier can still be viewed through its official website.
This year’s Katara Ramadan activities come within the framework of Doha as the capital of Islamic culture, as the Cultural Village is providing diverse cultural activities that enhance the role of culture in the Islamic world. Katara continues to present its various activities and exhibitions on its social media accounts and on its website.
