Doha: Abdullatif Al Mahmoud, CEO of Dar Al Sharq Group, has praised the quality of care being provided to the workers from different nationalities in Qatar, stressing the importance of laws and regulations issued by Qatar.
Al Mahmoud stressed that expatriate workers and residents are partners in achieving the developmental renaissance in the country, and all of them, either blue-collar or skilled workers, have made great efforts in this regard.
He also praised the support from all ministries and institutions, concerned with labour and workers issues, to ensure the success of the International Workers’ Day, which will be held on May 1 under the patronage of the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, H E Yousef bin Mohammed Al Othman Fakhro, and the participation of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
The celebration of the International Workers’ Day will be held under the theme “Qatar’s Contributions to Protect Rights of Workers” and the centenary of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and it is a message to the workers home and abroad that Qatar is always providing all the comforts and legal and human protection for workers, Al Mahmoud pointed out.
It also comes as an extension of the conference launched by the Dar Al Sharq six years ago in 2013 and continues to succeed successfully in its various community initiatives in the areas of social responsibility, protecting workers and supporting charitable work, he said.
“The success of Dar Al Sharq in this regard stems from our commitment to the wise vision of the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, through the directives contained in Qatar National Vision 2030, which defined the need for legal legislation and procedures,” Al Mahmoud said.
He also said that Dar Al Sharq has launched several initiatives to support the rights of expatriate workers and these initiatives were supported by the ministries and national institutions and other institutions interested in supporting labour rights initiatives. He said that Dar Al Sharq, which is the largest media institution in Qatar, has direct channels of communication with foreign communities, and publishes eight local newspapers in languages of peoples of the world such as English, Hindi, Malayalam, Sinhala, Urdu, Filipino, Nepalese and others.
Regarding the role of sponsors, he praised their role and its importance in the success of the activities of the celebration of International Workers’ Day. The celebrations have been sponsored by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, and Tadmur Holding.
