Doha: The State of Qatar has strongly deplored and condemned the violation of the holy sites of the Al Aqsa Mosque, the latest of which was the stormy and barbaric incursion carried out by the Israeli occupation forces yesterday.

In a statement yeserday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that because the Israeli occupation forces have not legally or morally deterred nor been under international pressure, they deliberately choose the holiest times and places in order to provoke the feelings of 1.5 billion Muslims in full view of the world.

This violation comes shortly after passing the racist law, which Israel called the “Nation Law”, to emphasize the exclusionary and racist nature of this sinful occupation, that has a long history of decades of encroachment on both Islamic and Christian holy sites, the statement added.

The Foreign Ministry’s statement called on the Arab and Islamic countries and the international community to stand united to stop the Israeli arrogance, tampering of innocent lives, violating basic human right to freedom of worship and provoking the feelings of all Muslims in the world.

Israeli police closed the gates to Al Aqsa Mosque compound for several hours yesterday after clashes with Palestinian worshippers following midday prayers at the flashpoint site.

The Waqf, the religious authority that governs the site, published videos showing police firing tear gas at Palestinians inside the mosque compound.

Police later surrounded the Al Aqsa mosque, which shares the compound with the gold-topped Dome of the Rock, before entering.

Jordan, which is recognised as the custodian of religious sites in disputed Jerusalem, criticised the Israeli measures.

In a statement, a government spokesman condemned the “ongoing violations and provocations against the holy Al Aqsa mosque, especially the Israeli police storming the mosque today and its aggression against the worshippers”.
