DOHA: The Cultural Village Foundation-Katara yesterday launched ‘Solar Calendar of the Constellations in the State of Qatar’ by Qatari engineer Essa S R Al Kuwari.
Available in English and Arabic, the calendar is a cultural added-value, which will enable researchers to study history based on an interesting scientific approach by observing celestial phenomena.
“Undoubtedly, the calendar’s importance springs from man’s need to have a mechanism of timekeeping, calculate a date and time, reckon past or future time, organise public and private human affairs and keep track and observation of religious occasions.
“The calendar is vital for individuals, countries and corporations and none of these can function outside its influence or guidance,” Katara General Manager Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said the launch.
He said the Cultural Village was keen to take the initiative and publish the calendar as it includes valuable information and data on zodiac constellations and its impact on local environment and ecological system. The calendar also relates to national traditions and identity as it includes a listing of the Tropical Year based on Qatar’s solar orbits.
