Doha: Qatar University’s (QU) College of Health Sciences Student Association (CHSSA) recently held a virtual workshop entitled “Donate Blood, Save Lives.”

The virtual workshop was presented by Dr. Sapha Shibeeb, an Associate Professor from the Department of Biomedical Sciences at QU. He discussed the importance of blood donation and its role in society.

He also explained the various concepts about blood banks and how to donate, separating blood products and the preparation from the donor to the recipient, and the importance of proper blood storage.

The attendees exchanged and discussed various questions about blood donation.

The CHSSA plays a great role in spreading awareness among members of the community. The CHSSA composed a video in partnership with HMC Blood Donor Center to clarify the correct process for donating blood and familiarising the latest analysers in blood donor centres to test blood and ensure the absence of infectious diseases in blood products.

These efforts are an alternative solution to the annual awareness trips halted in light of the current crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jawaher Al Emadi, President of CHSSA, expressed her gratitude for the workshop’s success and thanked all participants who made this workshop successful.

She also conveyed her thanks and appreciation to HMC Blood Donor Center for their participation in the successful delivery of this workshop through their valuable cooperation. Al Emadi thanked the Dean of the College of Health Sciences, Dr. Hanan Abdul Rahim, for her immense support. Through this virtual workshop, CHSSA anticipated spreading awareness in a manner that protects students’ safety and health. CHSSA strives to find alternative solutions that are suitable for unusual situations.
