HRH Princess Dina Mired during her visit to PHCC’s Leabaib Screening Suite.
Doha: Primary Health Care Corporation received HRH Princess Dina Mired, President-Elect of Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), at the recently expanded Leabaib Screening Suite.
The visit was organised in collaboration with Qatar Cancer Society (QCS). As part of National Screening Tour Visit, HRH Princess Dina Mired was escorted by Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, Manager of Screening Programmes at PHCC, Dr Muna Al Saadi, Leabaib Health Centre Manager, and a team of the Programme and PHCC.
The tour started by a presentation by the Screen for Life programme about the major achievements of the programme since its launch. After that Princess Dina toured Leabaib Health Centre Screening Suite, followed by the Mobile Screening Unit Tour.
HRH Princess Dina also met with Dr Mariam Abdulmalik, Managing Director at PHCC where she presented her role as President of UICC and invited PHCC to become a member of the union. Princess Dina also invited PHCC to participate in Oman World Cancer Leaders’ Summit and Congress in October 2020.
“It has been a great honour for all of us at PHCC to welcome HRH Princess Dina Mired who has long been associated with this noble cause of eradicating the instances of cancer and has to her credit several accolades and credentials in spreading awareness on cancer screening. She paid a visit to our expanded Leabaib Screening Centre and was pleased to see the kind of sophisticated services we are offering to create awareness among the people of Qatar on the importance of cancer screening. We also discussed the possibilities of collaboration with UICC on enhancing our horizons and making it a global moment to realize a far greater impact.”
On her part, HRH Princess Dina Mired, said, “I am very impressed by the work of Primary Health Corporation. Given that our EMRO region is set to witness the highest increase in cancer incidence by 2025 of all WHO EMRO regions, this makes the work of PHCC all the more important to reduce the cancer burden.
The success of the National Breast and Bowel Cancer Screening Programs are of paramount importance. Also I want to thank Qatar Cancer Society for their UICC membership, Collaboration and arranging the visit to PHCC.”
HRH Princess Dina Mired is the first Arab president of the world’s largest cancer-fighting body (UICC). She is also a mother to a cancer survivor and a global anti-cancer advocate. Before taking on the current role as the President-Elect of Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), she was the Director General of King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF).
