Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has stepped up its efforts to enforce intellectual property laws, carrying out intensive inspection campaigns across various parts of Qatar that resulted in the detection of several copyright-related violations.
In a post on its X platform, MoCI stated, “The Ministry of Commerce and Industry carried out intensive inspection campaigns across various areas of the country, as part of its efforts to enhance compliance with the provisions of intellectual property laws and Law No. 7 of 2002 on the Protection of Copyright and Related Rights, and to ensure that commercial establishments comply with the relevant regulations and legislation.”
“The inspection campaigns resulted in the detection of a number of violations involving the public display and transmission of audiovisual works without obtaining the necessary permits or approvals from the rights holders.
“The Ministry affirms that respecting broadcasting rights and intellectual property is a shared responsibility that contributes to protecting the legitimate rights of rights holders and strengthening a commercial and cultural environment based on respect for regulations and support for creativity and innovation,” it added.
The inspection drives were conducted as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen compliance with the country’s intellectual property framework and ensure that commercial establishments adhere to applicable laws and regulations.
The Ministry emphasised that the campaigns form part of a broader strategy to safeguard intellectual property rights and promote adherence to the country’s legal framework governing copyright protection.
