Katara yesterday announced it will organise the “Hayya Baya” event tomorrow from 5pm to 8pm on Katara Beach Gates 12 to 21. This event comes in the context of the Cultural Village’s continuous endeavour to revive the folk heritage and instill customs and traditions of the Qatari identity, said Katara.
Katara assures that the “Hayya Baya” festival will be held within all safety precautions and preventive measures being taken against COVID-19. The festival includes two main events namely the dollhouse and the distribution of balloons, expected to make children enjoy in a joyful atmosphere. Katara is keen on developing children’s culture in relation to the ancient folk traditions set to contribute to preserving the Qatari heritage by presenting intellectual and enjoyable events and programs.
“Hayya Baya” is an annual folk custom and popular tradition in the Gulf region, in which children gather in the beginning of the month of Dhul Hijjah. Children bring empty boxes or small wicker baskets, where some grains such as barley, wheat or lentil are planted, suspended in a safe place exposed to air and sunlight and watered and taken care by the children.
