In line with Qatar's strategic policy on food security and sustainability, which is a core component of the Qatar National Vision 2030, a Qatari Ali Ahmed Al Malki has established a massive olive farm and cold press factory in Tunisia.

The olive tree farm which will cater to the needs of the Qatari market and other parts of the region is located in the El Kef region of the North African country - a region globally renowned for its superior quality olives, and it has a monthly production capacity of over 10,000 litres.

The olive oil, which is selling under the brand name "Quality Tree" is entirely produced using cold-press technology without the use of any heat or chemicals and it is available in 500ml and 750ml bottles, as well as three-litre cans.

Speaking about the motivation for venturing into the business, Al Malki said, "Olive oil is an integral part of the Arabian and Mediterranean menu and culture, and I've always been fascinated with stories associated with olive right from childhood. Aside from this, I saw a need to contribute my quota, as a proud citizen of this great country, to the government policy and the impressive Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly in the area of food security. I then decided to invest in the farm, having understood that Tunisia produces one of the best olives in the world."

Malki, a professional engineer and sports administrator, added that he studied extensively about the production techniques and other vital aspects of the trade before venturing into it and this has adequately equipped him with what it takes to run the business successfully.

Speaking about his production technique, Malki said, "We crush olives into a paste, then apply force with a mechanical press to separate the oil from the pulp in accordance to European food standards at temperatures 81°F (27°C). Our cold-press formula helps olive oil retain its nutritional value. We offer and supply the highest grades of olive oil — extra virgin oil and virgin oil."

Malki added that the response to his products has been very encouraging since its introduction into the local market.

"The response has been overwhelming since the first consignment of over 20,000 litres of "Quality Tree" olive oil brand entered the market. We are encouraged by all these, but more importantly, we are happy to be part of the country's development and progress, and also a significant contributor to its food sustainability policy," he said.

About his future plans, Malki said he intends to open a production factory very soon to produce locally.

"Our plan is not only to produce for Qatar but the entire region. With the establishment of the factory in Qatar, we will not only reduce the production cost but also ensure more quality as the oversight will be much better besides providing more job opportunities for the populace," he said.
