Al Rayyan edge Laos 1-0 in Doha friendly

Doha: The Qatar Stars League (QSL) champions Al Rayyan displayed a glimpse of their form when they defeated  international side Laos 1-0 at Aspire Zone on Saturday.
A Sergio Garcia (pictured) penalty on the 75th minute was enough for Jorge Fossati’s side who took on the south east Asian team.
The tie will serve as an important test for Rayyan who are fine tuning their squad ahead of the start of the season.
Al Rayyan will open up their QSL campaign on September 17 when they will take on newly promoted Al Shahaniya.
Meanwhile, El Jaish resumed training following their 3-0 defeat to Al Nasr in the AFC champions League.
The Sabri Lamouchi’s side reconvened at their Qatar University base on Saturday evening to undergo training.
Jaish have now begun to prepare for their high profile friendly with Saudi giants Al Hilal, which is set to take place on September 7.
In other development ahead of the new QSL season, Al Gharafa stumbled to defeat in a friendly game when they went down fighting 3-1 against a local Dubai side.
Striker Adel Ahmed scored a late consolidation for Pedro Caixinia’s side, in a game which saw Slovakian midfielder Vladimir Weiss return to the side after spell on the sidelines with an injury.  
Meanwhile,  Al Sailiya has confirmed two friendly matches as the Peregrines ramp up their preparations ahead of the new season.
Sami Trabelsi’s side will take on the Saudi Arabian side Al Batain on the September 4, and will play their last friendly against Mesaimeer on September 9.
