Doha: Foremost Qatari jewellery designer Sameera Al Mulla is marking another significant milestone for her brand Hessa Jewels at the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE) 2026, where she is once again presenting her collections from an independent booth.

Having evolved from participating alongside other Qatari designers between 2019 and 2023 to securing her first independent space in 2024, Al Mulla describes the return in 2026 as a meaningful step forward.

Speaking to The Peninsula, Al Mulla, who has over two decades of experience as a banker, said her journey into design began with a passion for creating jewellery that tells stories from our Qatari heritage.

“Returning with my own booth in 2026 is another meaningful step for Hessa Jewels. It gives me the opportunity to share my vision more fully and to show how the brand has grown,” she added.

Founded by Al Mulla, Hessa Jewels draws deeply from the details of Qatari life and inherited traditions. Familiar cultural elements such as the batoola, the marwad and the thobe al nashl are reinterpreted into contemporary pieces.

“I draw inspiration from familiar elements... and reinterpret them as jewellery for today. I want each piece to be beautiful to wear while carrying a story about where it came from,” she explained.

Her design philosophy has matured over the years. Early work focused on transforming traditional symbols into wearable forms. Today, greater emphasis is placed on the narrative behind each creation and the refined details that ensure elegance and everyday wearability. What sets Hessa Jewels apart, according to Al Mulla, is this personal interpretation of Qatari heritage. “Each design begins with a meaningful idea, then takes shape in a contemporary style.”

At DJWE 2026, visitors can expect two standout collections. The Al Nashl collection is inspired by the intricate beauty of the traditional thobe al nashl, while Al Lamma draws from the woven palm-leaf dining mat known as sufrat al khous. The latter holds special personal resonance. “For me, it brings back memories of family gatherings and the warmth of coming together around a meal,” Al Mulla said. “Both collections celebrate different parts of Qatari heritage through contemporary jewellery.”

Balancing tradition with modern appeal remains central to her approach. She begins with a meaningful traditional element and then explores form, materials and fine details so that the finished piece feels elegant and wearable today. A Qatari customer may recognise a familiar memory, while an international visitor discovers a facet of Qatari culture.

Looking ahead, Al Mulla’s ambitions for Hessa Jewels centre on steady growth and wider recognition. She hopes to participate in international exhibitions and introduce more people to the stories behind her designs, while ensuring the brand’s identity stays clear: contemporary jewellery with a Qatari soul.

Through her independent presence at DJWE 2026, Al Mulla continues to affirm the place of Qatari heritage within the global jewellery landscape, offering pieces that connect wearers to shared cultural memory in a refined, modern language.
