Qatar's permanent representative to UN affirms Qatar's welcome of convening of LDC High-Level Meeting in Doha

New York: Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani affirmed Qatar's welcome of the convening of the High-Level Meeting of Least Developed Countries (LDC) in Doha from Dec. 2-4, under the title: "Forging Ambitious Global Partnerships for Sustainable and Resilient Graduation of Least Developed Countries."

Her Excellency told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the meeting will be held in partnership between the State of Qatar and the United Nations, represented by the Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States, within the framework of the leading role that Qatar has played in implementing the Doha Program of Action (2022-2023) since it hosted the United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries in March 2023.

Her Excellency indicated that the meeting will witness the active participation of heads of government, ministers, high-level officials, and experts from the LDC group, development partners, and the United Nations. In this regard, she noted that the participants will discuss the best ways to support the efforts of a group of least developed countries seeking a sustainable exit from the LDC category and moving towards development prospects through national plans supported by the United Nations and development partners, among them the State of Qatar.

HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations considered the meeting a platform for high-level dialogues and an opportunity to exchange experiences and learn about best practices among countries.

In this context, she noted the efforts made by the Qatar Fund for Development, the development arm of the State of Qatar, and other relevant Qatari institutions through their international and regional partnerships in supporting the efforts of the LDC, implementing the outcomes of the Doha Program of Action, providing assistance in humanitarian emergencies, and supporting quality education, sustainable energy, and health care, through constructive and innovative methods.

Her Excellency indicated that the meeting will produce recommendations and guidelines on policies and the strengthening of regional and international partnerships.
