Australian Ambassador to Qatar Jonathan Muir
The Ambassador of Australian to Qatar, H E Jonathan Muir, facilitated the newly elected Executive Committee and Team members of Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter at a function held at Australian embassy premises in Doha on January 26, 2021, the Australia Day.
The Ambassador in his address congratulated the newly elected members and committed to provide his full support to the committee in its mission. The Ambassador highlighted the efforts and contribution of Australian Engineers in some of Qatar’s iconic development projects.
The 2020 committee conducted a virtual elections in the AGM held on December 8, 2020 where the members elected Mahmoud Fahmy as President, Tamer Naguib as Deputy President, Asif Rahmany as Secretary, Abdulaziz Al Bardawil as Treasurer and eight committee ordinary members. The elected members plus the past Qatar Chapter President, Mustafa Cherkawi shall form the chapter 2021 committee.
The elections were conducted by Astley Pung, Regional Business Development Manager who congratulated the new committee and stated the new team is well placed to lead the chapter over the coming years to maintain the momentum gained since the chapter was launched in 2015 and to strengthen its presence in Qatar.
The outgoing president of Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter Mustafa Cherkawi was also present during the felicitation and congratulated the newly elected team and committed his support and guidance.
“We thank Mustafa Cherkawi Qatar Chapter past President and the 2019-20 committee for their significant contribution over the past two years to the chapter where they conducted successful technical and social events and built strong ties with Qatar University and other engineering professional bodies in Qatar,” said new President Mahmoud Fahmy.
Engineers Australia’s high standards, globally-recognised credentials and international agreements enable Engineers Australia members to live and work around the world – with members currently in more than 120 countries. Its Qatar Chapter was established in 2015 and has been actively supporting the engineering community in Qatar.
