Qatar’s National Day is more than an annual celebration of the country’s history, achievements and identity. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the values that have shaped the nation and the responsibilities that will define its future. The slogan chosen for Qatar National Day 2026, “You Are the Nation’s Treasure,” captures this message with simplicity and depth.

Unveiled by Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for Qatar National Day, H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Thani, the slogan draws inspiration from the historic address delivered by the late Father Amir, H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, when he handed over power to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. His words placed young Qataris at the heart of the country’s future, describing them as the builders of its present and the bearers of its future.

The choice of this message carries particular emotional significance this year, marking the first National Day following the passing of H H the late Father Amir. It is a fitting tribute to a leader whose vision recognised that a nation’s greatest strength lies not simply in its wealth, infrastructure or natural resources, but in the capabilities, values and determination of its people.

Qatar’s history offers a powerful reminder of this truth. Earlier generations faced difficult living conditions, limited resources and a tough environment. Yet, through patience, solidarity and collective effort, they protected their land, preserved their traditions and laid the foundations for future development. Their legacy was built on unity and a shared understanding that the nation’s interests must come before individual ambitions.

Over the years, Qatar has transformed these foundations into a modern state with ambitious development plans, strong institutions and growing international influence. This progress has been possible because people have remained central to the country’s development journey.

However, being the nation’s treasure also comes with responsibility. It means contributing to society, respecting national values, protecting the country’s achievements and preparing future generations to meet new challenges. It requires young people to turn opportunities into meaningful contributions and to recognise that progress is a shared responsibility.

As Qatar looks towards a new chapter of growth and ambition, the 2026 National Day slogan serves as both a tribute to the past and a message for the future. It reminds every citizen and resident that the strength of a nation is ultimately measured by the commitment of its people. Qatar’s greatest treasure is not what lies beneath its land, but the people who build upon it, protect its legacy and carry its aspirations forward.
