At the opening of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, H H Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani delivered a message that resonated with all: “Social development is not a matter of choice, it is a fundamental necessity.”
Qatar’s hosting of this historic gathering underlines its growing leadership in shaping global dialogue on human progress. In his address, H H the Amir reaffirmed that the event “affirms the spirit of solidarity and international cooperation in addressing the challenges that hinder economic growth, and slow down the achievement of human development goals, which will threaten social peace.”
As newly elected Chair of the Summit, H H the Amir emphasised that Doha’s commitment to hosting the meeting “stems from our firm conviction in the importance of collective action on issues that should not be contentious,” pointing out that challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and social inequality “require collective cooperation and effective solidarity.”
H H the Amir reminded the international community that as the United Nations marks its 80th anniversary, the world has an opportunity to “renew our commitment to its Charter, to multilateral cooperation within its institutions, and to redouble our efforts to solidify the values of social development as an essential foundation for achieving security, prosperity, and stability for all.”
HH the Amir outlined how Qatar has made social progress a cornerstone of its development journey. He noted that the State continues to “enhance human development, improve quality of life, promote prosperity and well-being, and advance education quality, economic empowerment, healthcare, family welfare, and social protection.” He also highlighted the launch of the Ministry of Social Development and Family’s 2025-2030 Strategy titled “From Care to Empowerment.” This initiative, he said, aims to build “a cohesive society founded on justice, equal opportunity, and human empowerment,” aligning national priorities with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
H H the Amir reaffirmed Qatar’s steadfast partnership with the United Nations and its leading role in supporting humanitarian and development efforts. “The State of Qatar will remain an active partner in the international community and a supporter of social development efforts,” he declared.
