Developing national talent and creating meaningful employment opportunities for citizens are important priorities for Qatar.
The recently-held inaugural Private Sector Nationalisation Award was an opportunity to recognise the companies and individuals contributing to this national objective. The recognition of 14 establishments and eight individuals, following 426 applications across nine sectors, reflects growing engagement with this priority.
The Prime Minister’s meeting with the winners, and his call to expand national talent participation, underline the importance attached to this agenda at the highest level.
Over the years, the government efforts have shown results, with Qatari professionals occupying meaningful positions, assuming leadership responsibilities and contributing to innovation, productivity and business growth in the private sector.
The Ministry of Labour has reported more than 8,500 Qatari appointments in the private sector since 2022. The National Strategy for an Effective and Highly Productive Workforce 2024–2030 aims to increase Qataris’ share of private-sector employment from 17% to 20%, creating opportunities for approximately 15,400 additional citizens.
Equally important is the need to bridge the gap between academic qualifications and the evolving requirements of the private sector.
Greater cooperation between universities, vocational institutions and employers can help prepare graduates for emerging opportunities in technology, finance, healthcare, logistics and other specialised industries.
Internship programmes, professional certifications and structured graduate development schemes can give young Qataris the practical experience and confidence needed to compete and progress.
Businesses, in turn, benefit from a skilled workforce that understands the local market and contributes to their long-term growth.
