The final communiqué of the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha marks a historic moment of unity and determination. Convened in response to the barbaric Israeli attack on Doha, this summit did more than issue condemnation—it sent clear messages against Israeli aggression in the region.
The summit, hosted under the leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, was more than symbolic. It was a reaffirmation of regional solidarity in the face of what can only be described as a reckless and unlawful escalation by Israel. The airstrike on a residential area in Doha—a zone known for hosting peace negotiators and home to schools and diplomatic missions—was not just an attack on Qatar; it was an attack on diplomacy itself.
Qatar’s role as a mediator in regional crises, particularly in Gaza, is well recognized globally. To target it amid peace efforts signals a dangerous willingness to derail negotiations through violence. Such behavior should have no place in international relations.
The unified stance taken by the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) reflects a growing realization that the pattern of impunity Israel has enjoyed must end. The communiqué rightly connects this act of aggression to broader violations—settlement expansion, displacement of Palestinians, and continued occupation—underscoring that these are not isolated incidents, but part of a broader policy that undermines regional and global stability.
Notably, the summit also pushes the international community to move beyond statements of concern. Calls to review Israel’s UN membership, impose sanctions, and restrict arms transfers send a powerful signal: accountability must become more than a slogan.
Qatar’s measured yet firm response to the aggression, and its continued commitment to peaceful resolution was widely commended by summit participants. This crisis may prove to be a turning point—not just for Qatar, but for the collective Arab-Islamic stance on justice, sovereignty, and peace in the region.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council has also affirmed the complete solidarity of the GCC states with Qatar in all measures it takes to confront this aggression. It stressed that the security of the GCC states is indivisible, and that any attack on one of them is an attack on all, in accordance with the Basic Statute of the GCC and the Joint Defense Agreement, and the readiness of the member states to harness all capabilities to support the sisterly State of Qatar and protect its security, stability, and sovereignty against any threats.
