Qatar's horse racing season has started, bringing the excitement of thrilling finishes, fierce competition and the enduring appeal of a sport deeply rooted in the country’s heritage.

The Al Ghariyah Cup and Al Hamla Cup meetings have already set the tone for another campaign, with a compelling season ahead at Al Rayyan and Al Uqda racecourses.

Horse racing in Qatar is more than a sporting spectacle as it reflects a longstanding connection between the horse and the nation’s culture, one that continues to thrive through investment, organisation and a growing international profile.

The new domestic calendar, featuring 70 meetings, offers owners, trainers and jockeys a platform to compete throughout the season, while giving fans plenty to look forward to.

At the heart of the campaign is the H H The Amir Sword Festival, one of the most popular events on Qatar’s sports calendar. Scheduled for February 10-13, 2027, the festival brings together the finest Thoroughbreds and Purebred Arabians in a celebration of sporting excellence. Its appeal extends beyond the racecourse, showcasing Qatar’s ability to host prestigious international competition while honouring its equestrian traditions.

The promotion of the H H The Amir Trophy from international Group 2 to Group 1 status is particularly significant. It recognises the race’s growing stature and strengthens Qatar’s position on the international racing stage.

The momentum extends beyond racing. The Longines Hathab Qatar Equestrian Tour has also started its 10th season, with two rounds already completed. The tour’s emphasis on male and female riders, including young and future competitors, is essential to building a strong foundation for the sport’s future.

Qatar’s equestrian ambitions rest on the balance between preserving tradition and pursuing progress. The country continues to nurture talent, attract international attention and provide platforms for excellence from the racecourse to the showjumping arena.
