Iran’s latest attacks on Qatar and other countries in the region represent a dangerous escalation that cannot be ignored. Any attack on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a nation is a serious breach of international law and a direct challenge to the principles that govern relations between states.
The attacks carried out against Qatar, as well as the territories of Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, were a clear violation of their sovereignty and a reckless act that threatens regional security. Countries have the right to protect their people, defend their territories and take necessary measures in accordance with international law.
The incidents in the early hours of Friday, when Qatar’s skies witnessed aerial interceptions following renewed attacks, showed once again the risks created by military escalation in an already tense region. The Ministry of Interior confirmed that a child was injured by falling shrapnel following the interceptions over Doha, highlighting the human cost of such actions.
Qatar has consistently called for restraint, dialogue and diplomatic solutions to regional disputes. But respect for dialogue cannot come at the expense of national sovereignty or the safety of civilians. The continuation of attacks only widens tensions and makes efforts towards stability and security more difficult.
The international community must take note of these violations and the dangers posed by actions that threaten neighbouring countries. Respect for borders and sovereignty remains a fundamental principle of international relations, and any breach of this principle must be addressed.
Qatar has affirmed its right to respond under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and international law to protect its sovereignty, citizens and residents. This is a legitimate position for any state facing attacks on its territory.
At the same time, Qatar has expressed solidarity with Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, which are also facing similar violations. The security of Gulf countries and neighbouring states is closely connected and attacks against one country affect the stability of the entire region.
The priority now must be an immediate halt to military actions and a return to serious diplomatic engagement. Escalation will only bring further uncertainty, while dialogue remains the only sustainable path towards regional peace. The people of the region deserve security and stability, not more tension and confrontation. Sovereignty must be respected, international law must be upheld and every effort must be made to prevent further escalation.
