The opening of the 9th World Investment Forum 2026 in Doha marks an important moment for Qatar as it strengthens its position as a global investment destination and a partner in shaping the future of the international economy.
Bringing together around 7,000 participants, including government leaders, investors, policymakers and business executives, the forum offers more than a platform for discussion. It provides an opportunity to turn shared economic ambitions into practical partnerships, particularly at a time when geopolitical tensions, technological change and shifting supply chains are reshaping global investment.
Under the theme “Investing in the Future,” Qatar has presented a clear message: sustainable economic growth requires more than attracting capital. It demands investment in people, infrastructure, innovation and institutions, alongside policies that encourage businesses to think beyond short-term returns.
The figures highlighted at the opening are encouraging. Qatar attracted 373 foreign direct investment projects in 2025, a 50 percent increase from the previous year, creating more than 15,000 jobs. Its $1bn investment incentives programme and planned infrastructure projects worth $38.5bn over the next five years further demonstrate its ambition to expand economic opportunities.
The forum’s focus on the energy transition also deserves attention. Attracting private capital into clean energy and sustainable infrastructure is becoming increasingly important as countries seek to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility. Qatar’s ability to connect investors with viable, forward-looking projects could help strengthen its role in this changing landscape.
There are lessons here for other economies as well. Discussions on investment promotion highlighted how institutional reforms and simpler procedures can make countries more attractive to investors. Ultimately, investment thrives where confidence meets opportunity. Strong infrastructure and financial incentives matter, but so do transparent regulations, efficient institutions and consistent policies.
By hosting the forum, Qatar has placed itself at the centre of an important global conversation. The challenge now is to translate dialogue into lasting results. The partnerships formed in Doha will lead to productive investment, meaningful employment and broader economic diversification.
