DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Islamic Development Bank (IDB) to supply Gaza hospitals with medicines and medical equipment worth $5m.
The project is being funded by the Programme of the GCC for the Reconstruction of Gaza, under the supervision of IDB.
More than 150,000 Palestinian patients suffering due to shortages of medical supplies will benefit, said
Dr Akram Nassar, Head of QRCS office in Gaza. The contribution of IDB is important for the Palestinian people amid crises in Gaza and its impact on major sectors, especially health care, he added. This is part of QRCS-IDB projects in Gaza, which also includes the disability services development program, support of the health sector with supplies and expertise, construction and restoration of sewage water pumping stations, and rainwater harvesting.
Other agreements were signed by QRCS with the Palestinian Ministry of Health, including for the 2016-2017 Medical Expertise and Training Project, and development of gastroscopy services at Nasser Hospital and European Gaza Hospital.
Both projects are funded by QRCS at a cost of $250,000 and $200,000, respectively.
“Having these medications and materials will help treat a lot of needy patients, especially those with renal, blood, and cardiac diseases,” said Dr Ashraf Abo Mahadi, Director-General, International Operation at the Ministry. The Peninsula
