Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment has announced the opening of Fowairet beach to public from today. It was closed in April in view of the nesting season of the sea turtles.
The nesting season of turtles this year was successful at all standards. The nesting percentage was large at the islands and north coasts of the country, especially at Algareyah, Fowairet, Almorona, and Almafir, said Mohammad Mubarak Al-Merri, Manager, the Hawksbill sea turtles protection project, Environmental protection and Nature Reserves and Wildlife Administration at the ministry.

The sea turtles project had been carried out by the ministry since 2013, in cooperation with Qatar petroleum and Qatar university, Al-Merri added.
He also pointed out that the ministry had organised several events for schools and companies with the beginning of the sea turtles nesting season in Fowairet beach.
The nesting sites at Fowairet beach have been fenced completely, in order to protect the endangered turtles during their nesting, as well, to provide the opportunity to study its behaviour and the environmental effects on it.
